Clinical Social Work Associate
Teamworks Provider
Mark Van Ness, CSWA, specializes in work with clients whose lives have been impacted by trauma. Mark’s main priority as a clinician is to provide a compassionate, supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can envision and realize new possibilities. As a queer-identified therapist, Mark views it as a special privilege to support individuals in the queer community.
Mark centers his work around client goals and collaborative therapeutic relationships. He combines narrative, attachment-based, somatic, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) approaches, and he believes in the power of self-compassion, mindfulness, creativity, and imagination. Additionally, he incorporates elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and solutions-focused and psychodynamic therapies to meet each client’s individual needs. He ensures that clients’ stories, life experiences, strengths, challenges, spiritualities, and identities are witnessed, honored, and respected.
Mark also possesses a deep understanding of the effects of religious trauma and spiritual abuse that stem from high-control, patriarchal religious systems, and he recognizes how impactful these experiences can be. He also believes in the capacity of individuals to grow and flourish as they learn to trust, love, and embrace their most authentic selves.
