*It is the responsibility of the patient to know their coverage, and our benefit check is a courtesy. If for any reason the insurance company does not cover the treatment, the patient is responsible.

All drivers with Oregon insurance are covered by personal injury protection (PIP). PIP is often extended to passengers. Treatment is available to you at no cost if you’ve been involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident and have an open claim.

If you have a job-related injury, you can usually receive treatment to relieve your pain at no cost without a referral for 30 days after the injury. After that point, a referral from a physician may be necessary.

If your insurance does not cover your treatment, you may be able to use your receipts as tax-deductible medical expenses.

Medicare, under certain circumstances, will cover Acupuncture for low back pain. Due to current legal and procedural reasons, Acupuncturists can not bill Medicare directly. It is possible, however, for patients to seek reimbursement from Medicare directly with (1) proof of payment/a superbill, and (2) form HCFA1490S. This requires upfront payment and processing effort on the part of the patient. It is up to the patient to fill out the forms and mail them to Medicare. It seems to take 9-12 weeks for reimbursement at the Medicare fee schedule, which may be less than the time of service out of pocket rate. There is no guarantee of payment. If you are interested in attempting this, we will provide a superbill and guidance. Form HCFA1490S can be found here: https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/CMS-Forms/CMS-Forms/Downloads/CMS1490S-ENGLISH.pdf
