Why We Created This Program
Care that meets people where they are
At Be Well, we kept hearing the same thing:
“I knew I needed support, but I couldn't afford another appointment.”
“My insurance only covered a few visits.”
“I couldn't get in soon enough.”
Many people are carrying more stress, financial pressure, chronic illness, and responsibility than ever before. We created Community Drop-In Acupuncture in response.
- ✓ A place where care is affordable.
- ✓ A place where support is available sooner.
- ✓ A place where healing doesn't require choosing between your health and your budget.
Is This For Me?
Acupuncture helps a wide range of healthcare needs
For many concerns—chronic pain, headaches, migraines, stress, anxiety, fatigue, allergies, and chronic illness—people often benefit from a series of treatments rather than a single visit.
Community acupuncture makes that kind of ongoing care more accessible.
Community Acupuncture Can Help Support:
Whether you're hoping to prevent a flare, recover from one, or find relief from symptoms you've been carrying for years, you're welcome here.
Healing Together
A shared healing space
Community acupuncture provides individualized treatment in a shared healing space. This model makes care more affordable, more accessible, and easier to receive regularly.
Many people discover that one of the most meaningful parts of community acupuncture is the reminder that they are not alone.
- ✓Affordable
- ✓Accessible

Meet The Team
Practitioners committed to community care
Leslie Monarch, LAc.
(they/them)
Leslie is a tuina practitioner, an acupuncturist, and Chinese herbalist. They have been in practice since 1996. Since graduating with their Master's in Chinese medicine, they have been teaching Chinese medicine at OCOM and now NUNM.
In practice, they specialize in treating emotional and physical pain, anxiety, PTSD and related experiences, and complex or poorly understood diagnoses such as POTS and FND. Their treatments most often include tuina massage as well as needling.
Alyssa Schaffer, LAc.
(she/her)
Alyssa is an acupuncturist and herbalist who loves working with folks to achieve their wellness goals. She particularly loves treating clients experiencing digestive issues, acute and chronic pain, pregnancy, autoimmune disease, menstrual issues, and fertility concerns.
As a bigger-bodied person, Alyssa strives to create a space where every body is welcome. As a Colombian-American, she also aims to provide more access to holistic wellness to the Latine community and offers services in Spanish as well as English.
Chris Gamman
(he/him)
Chris is a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Prior to this work, he served in the US Navy as a Corpsman in the Rehabilitation Medicine department at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, working across Physical, Occupational, and Kinesiotherapy.
As a chronic pain patient himself, Chris knows firsthand the struggles of constant pain. Acupuncture gave him much of his life back, and with his combined experiences he works to do the same for his patients. He also draws on a background in horticulture, herbal products, cooking as medicine, and Tian Shan Pai kung fu and taiji.
Jonathan Luna
(he/him)
Jonathan earned his Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from NUNM through the OCOM teach-out program in 2025. He is currently completing the NCCAOM board examination process and pursuing licensure in Oregon.
Jonathan has a special interest in supporting people with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD), chronic pain, fibromyalgia, fatigue, anxiety, PTSD, and autoimmune conditions such as lupus. He draws on acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, bodywork, and Strain Counterstrain to support nervous system regulation and long-term healing.
Growing Community-Based Care
Our clinic combines treatment, mentorship, and professional development in one setting, bringing together experienced practitioners and newer acupuncturists in a collaborative model that helps preserve and strengthen community-based acupuncture for future generations.
Leslie Monarch brings 30 years of clinical practice, teaching, and mentorship experience, and will be providing guidance and supervision for acupuncturists Chris and Jonathan as they deepen their work supporting chronic illness, pain, and nervous system health. Together with Alyssa's expertise in fertility and family care, our team reflects a shared commitment to trauma-informed, community-centered healthcare.
At a time when community acupuncture programs and acupuncture training opportunities are becoming increasingly scarce, we believe accessible, community-based care—and the practitioners who provide it—are more important than ever.
Every treatment is provided within a carefully supervised clinical environment.
