What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy (OT) helps people recover the skills and abilities they need for everyday life. After a concussion, even simple activities—reading, screens, grocery stores, work tasks, driving, or being around noise and light—can feel overwhelming. OT offers practical, step-by-step strategies to help your brain and body heal while easing you back into the routines and activities that matter most.
How OT Helps With Concussion Recovery:
- Energy conservation strategies to reduce fatigue and brain fog
- Gradual, safe return to school, work, play, exercise, or driving
- Support for light and sound sensitivity, headaches, and sensory overload
- Techniques to manage visual strain
- Psychosocial support to rebuild confidence and reduce anxiety during recovery
- Adaptations to your environment or routines to make daily tasks manageable
- Therapeutic exercises to improve strength, coordination, and endurance
- Manual therapy to relieve pain and improve comfort
- Reducing barriers so you can focus on what matters most: healing and feeling like yourself again
You may be a good fit for OT if you’re experiencing:
- Persistent symptoms after a concussion or head injury
- Post-Concussion Syndrome (ongoing headaches, fatigue, fogginess, irritability, difficulty concentrating)
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Neuro-Lyme symptoms affecting cognition or energy
- Chronic illness that affects daily hand functioning: EDS
Amy works collaboratively with her clients and their healthcare team to make the recovery process smoother. Her approach centers around education, empowerment, and helping each person move forward at a pace that feels safe and supportive.
